Thisstandardisissuedunderthe xeddesignationD5025;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

1.Scope*

1.1Thisspeci cationcoversthephysicaldimensionsandcharacteristicsofalaboratoryburnertobeusedasanignitionsourceforsmall-scaleburningtestsonplasticmaterials.Theburnerisusedwithmethane,propane,orbutanesupplygasesfor ameheightsof20to125mm.

3.Terminology

3.1De nitions—Fortermsrelatingtoplastics,thede ni-tionsareinaccordancewithTerminologyD883,andtheabbreviationsareinaccordancewithTerminologyD1600.Fortermsrelatingto re,thede nitionsareinaccordancewithTerminologyE176.

4.Design

4.1Theburnershallconsistofabarrelthatthreadsontoaone-piecebaseandgasinlet,asshowninFig.1.Thecomponentsshallbeconstructedofmetal.

4.1.1BurnerBarrel—Theburnerbarrelshallconsistofamixingtubeandthreadedair-inletadapter.Themixingtubeshallbeofseamlessconstruction,withaninsidediameterof9.560.3mm.Thelengthofthebarrelfromthetopoftheair-inletopeningstothetopofthemixingtubeshallbe

NOTE4—Therequirementfortheminimumareaoftheair-inletopeningshascommonlybeenobtainedwiththreeopenings,approxi-mately6.5by12.5mm.

4.1.2BurnerOri ce—Thebaseoftheburnershallbeequippedwithanori ceof0.9060.03mmindiameterand1.6060.05mminlength.

4.1.3NeedleValve—Thebaseoftheburnershallbeequippedwithamachinedneedlevalvetorestricttheori ceopeningandregulategasvelocitythroughtheburner.Aknurledknobshallbeprovidedforadjustmentofthevalve.Theneedlevalveshallbemachinedwithaconicalpointusinganangleof40°withamaximum attopof0.4mm.

NOTE5—Theneedlemustalignwiththeori ceinthevalveseat.Check

100610mm.Thetopofthemixingtubeshallnotbeequippedwithendattachments,suchasstabilizers.Theair-inletadapter,locatedatthebottomofthemixingtube,shallbeapproximately25mmhighand20mminoveralldiameter.Theminimumareaoftheair-inletopeningsshallbe225mm2distributedequidistantaroundtheadapter.Withthebarrelfullyscrewedintothebaseandthelocknutinplace,theair-inletopeningsshallbecompletelyclosed.

4.1.4GasInlet—Thebaseoftheburnershallbeprovidedwithaserrated ttingforconnectiontothegassupply.

4.1.5LockNut(Optional)—Providetheburnerwithalocknutthatthreadsontothebase.Thisallowsthebarreltobetightenedsecurelyagainstthelocknutwhentest amesrequirepositioningofthebarrelwithair-inletopeningspartiallyorfullyopen.5.Workmanship
