Reading: Maybe you should learn to relax!
Teaching aims:
1.Master some important words and phrases: for example, not …until, complain about, compare…with, and so on.
2.Practice reading.
3.Learn to enjoy studying and learn to relax.
Teaching importances: the phrases, reading skills(understand the text)
Teaching difficulty: Sum up the main idea of each paragraph

Step 1. Preparation:
I. Leading-in:
Are you busy in a week?
What do you do after school?
No matter what after-school activities you do, you should learn to relax!
(通过和学生对以上两个问题的对话交流导入课题:Maybe you should learn to relax!)
II. Learning aims:
1.Master some important words and phrases: for example, not …until, complain
about, compare…with, and so on.
2.Practice reading.
3.Learn to enjoy studying and learn to relax.
III. 检查前置性作业
Find out the new words and phrases:

Step2: Reading (Presentation and Practice)

Read those children’s family life quickly and answer the following questions.
1.Are Taylor’s children’s school days busy?
2.Do American and British children do many after-school activities?
3.Are many children under pressure?
4.Do parents push their children too hard those days?

Read the text again and then answer the following questions.
1.When do Taylor’s children get home ?
2.What after-school clubs do children take part in after school?
3.When does competition between families start?
4.What is difficult for these children when they’re adults?

1. not …until… 直到……才……
Eg. 直到昨天我才知道这件事情。
I didn’t know it until yesterday.
他直到作完工作才回家。
He didn’t go home until he finished his work.
2. complain about sth. / doing sth. / sb. 抱怨某事/某人
Eg. Don’t always complain about others.
She complained about paying so much for the meal.
3. compare A with B 把A和B进行比较
compare A to B 把A比做B
Eg. 我父母经常拿我和我表姐作比较。
My parents often compare me ____ my cousin.
人们常把老师比作父母。
People often compare teachers ____ parents.
4. find it + adj. +to do sth. 发现做某事…
it 是形式宾语,to do sth.是真正的宾语。
Eg. He found it hard to finish this work.
他发现要完成这项工作很难。
Step 3. Production
Let the students discuss in groups and finish the following two tasks.
1. Sum up the main idea of each paragraph.
2. Pressure is a serious problem in today’s world. What should we do to relax? 每组总结一段的段意(老师具体分工),小组讨论并展示。
让学生进一步领会文章精髓,回扣德育目标。Enjoy studying! Enjoy working! Enjoy every day! Life will be more valuable(有价值)

Suppose you are Dr Alice Green. Write a letter to Cathy Taylor. Give advice about what she should do with her children.

Dear Cathy,
I hear that your children are under too much pressure. I understand you, but I’m very worried. It’s bad for their health. You should give your kids a little more time. Because they need time and freedom to relax, and they also need time to do things by themselves.
If you go on doing like this, your children may find it hard to think for themselves when they are older.
